Year Up’s mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.
Since its founding in 2000, Year Up has served over 10,000 young adults and has had proven results:
• 100% placement of qualified Year Up students into six-month, fulltime internships
• 90% of corporate partners would recommend the Year Up program to a friend or colleague
• 85% of graduates are employed or attending college full-time within four months of completing the program
• Employed Year Up graduates earn an average of $16 per hour – the equivalent of $32,000 per year
The PTC is a career pathway that closely links college and employment for urban young adults. Year Up has been successful in reaching and developing untapped talent and now has launched the Jacksonville site with the intention of drastically increasing the number of young adults at FSCJ who have access to enterprising pathways to work.
PTC students in Jacksonville will attend FSCJ fulltime for their first semester of the program. For the second half of the program (for approximately 6 months), students will work fulltime in a professional-sector, mid-level career internship, in sectors such as Business Operations. At the end of the year, students will have earned 25-30 more college credits towards their college degree.
Information sessions that fully explain the Year Up program are held every Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., FSCJ Downtown Campus, Suite A3008. In order to accommodate high school seniors, I will conduct information sessions on Wednesdays, 3:00 pm, FSCJ Downtown Campus, Suite A3008 on the days that there is Early Release: February 25, March 11, March 25, April 8, April 29 and May 6.
