The Hero Next Door Students Contest was designed for students who have achieved academic success and demonstrated community service, according to a news release.
One student will receive a $5,000 scholarship and 10 other students will receive $1,000 scholarships.
The contest is open to students in middle school, junior high and high school in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, ages 13 to 18. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 for the current school year and have demonstrated community service in the last year, according to the release.
The deadline for applications is 9 a.m. May 1 and all submitted information will be confirmed by First Coast News. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, with the winners selected based on 50 percent community service and 50 percent grade point average.
