We are excited about the 2019-2020 recruiting class for the Mayor’s Young Leaders Advisory Council (MYLAC).
On behalf of MYLAC, we are requesting your participation! We are looking forward to the 6th year of recruitment for MYLAC and we need your help as future leaders who can impact the community today. This advisory board will meet quarterly with the Mayor, the CEO of the Kids Hope Alliance, and other community leaders and organizations to discuss youth related issues, advocacy, and ways to impact our community. The council is open to expanding and representing youth voice on other boards as well.
The council partnered with the DCPS Behavioral Health Dept. to host a mental health conference for over 300 high school and middle school participants. Many community partners served as vendors, panelists, workshop leaders, and poetic partners working in a collaborative effort to promote overall wellness. The council also hosted an event (Violence Is Ending With Students, V.I.E.W.S) to promote awareness of local supports dedicated to combating youth violence.
We are looking forward to building a relationship with each school to empower students to use their voice to implement change.
