This is a reminder that the registration deadline is this Friday for the December SAT and ACT. We are encouraging all juniors to take one or both of these tests in December in an effort to gain "post secondary ready" status. If a student meets the cut scores on the SAT and/or ACT, he/she will not have to take the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) in February or March.
Registration may be done online at www.collegeboard.com and www.act.org if payment is being made via credit card. If payment is being made via check or money order, paper and pencil registration is required, and those forms are available in Guidance. Students who qualify may receive fee waivers (one per test per year). See your school counselor for details. These schools will be hosting evening programs for students and parents to learn more about the admissions process and financial aid opportunities. Please visit www.harvardprincetonuva.com in order to register to attend one of these events.
Good morning from UF!
As you are aware, we are now utilizing a self-reported academic record system (SAR) with the application this year and I wanted to offer some “tips” for your students in completing the SAR. Since the application opened last week, we have had many questions with students incorrectly completing the SAR and have had to “revoke” several so they could be completed correctly. To complete the SAR, they need to have a copy of their transcript with them. If the transcript reflects semester grades rather than year-long grades, they need to complete the SAR accordingly, so it appears as: Subject Area: English Generic Course Title: ENGLISH HONORS 1(1001320) Course Name: ENGLISH HONORS 1 Course Level: Honors Course Length: Semester Semester/Term: First Final Grade: A Subject Area: English Generic Course Title: ENGLISH HONORS 1(1001320) Course Name: ENGLISH HONORS 1 Course Level: Honors Course Length: Semester Semester/Term: Second Final Grade: A Many students have been entering the semester grades as they appear on the transcript, but indicating that the course length was “Full Year”, thus significantly inflating the number of completed academic units in high school. This needs to be done for EVERY class on the transcript, regardless of subject matter and the grade they enter needs to be an unweighted grade. Classes taken in middle school, all should be shown as 8th grade regardless of the year taken --- the student needs to “back up” the dates for high school, i.e., instead of showing they attended ABC High school “08/2010-06/2014”, they would indicate “08/2009-06/2014” this allows the SAR to have 8th grade in the drop down box for an academic year. For classes being taken the Senior year, they need to make sure they include classes for both semesters --- if they are dual enrolling, they need to “project” the classes that they plan to take the Spring semester so we have an accurate reflection of their senior schedule. Once they think the SAR is complete, they need to review it carefully to make sure it is complete and accurately reflects their academic record. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you or any of your students have questions throughout the application cycle this year. We have created an FAQ page for Frequently Asked Questions, which can be found here:http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/sar.html Krista Scott Admissions Officer, Northeast Florida Representative University of Florida Office of Admissions 201 Criser Hall PO Box 114000 Gainesville, FL 32611 352.392.1365 352.392.2115 (FAX) AP students will get scores online this year.
As you may have heard, students will receive their AP scores online this July. This convenient new system replaces the old paper score reports, which will no longer be mailed. To find out more about important changes, the Collegeboard has developed an awareness toolkit which is available here for download: http://noreply.collegeboard.org/15b4cd0b3layfousualsnybqaaaaaaaoxg3aqrcrgeeyaaaaa Here are the key things know in order to better assist with this transition: 1. Students MUST have a College Board account in order to access their AP scores online in July. Students can sign up for a free College Board account at apscore.org as early as possible. http://noreply.collegeboard.org/1b858e4e7layfousualsnybyaaaaaaaoxg3aqrcrgeeyaaaaa * Many students will already have an account if they've ever registered for the SAT(R) or participated in other College Board programs. Students who already have an account should sign in and confirm that they have the correct username and password. * Students should keep their username and password in a safe place. * Students with a College Board account will receive email updates about how and when they can access their scores. 2. Students are encouraged to complete two important fields on their first 2013 AP answer sheet: their student identifier (student ID number) and email address. * Local student identifier or student ID number (Field T): If students have a local identifier and provide it on their AP answer sheet, they can use it to access their scores. If your students have more than one student ID (e.g., state level and school level), select the number that is most appropriate to use for reporting AP Exam scores. * Email address (Field U): Students who provide their email address will receive a notification when their AP scores are available. 3. Students MUST hold on to their AP number. * For security reasons, students will need to provide their AP number (or their student ID number, if they provided it on their answer sheet) in order to view their scores online and send scores to colleges.
