The It’s HER Business Teen Entrepreneurship Conference is a one-day conference for girls ages 15-18 enrolled in high school. It is designed to encourage financial literacy and help girls learn about starting businesses and managing personal finances through interactive games and hands-on activities. They use successful local business women as conference facilitators/mentors to share their ideas and experiences with the participants. This event brings parents, students, school administration, and women business owners together in one forum and has so far exposed over 700 young women to a whole new world of opportunities.

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is looking for volunteers who are willing to assist their organization and currently has four locations. PAL is a 501C Non-Profit organization, and they utilize volunteers on a regular basis to fulfill their mission. There are immediate openings and they can adjust the schedule according to the student’s availability. The task range from clerical work, inventory and organization, and even tutoring. They have afterschool programs daily and need tutors to assist the children with their homework. The openings are available 6 days a week, being closed on Sunday. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

As you know, the website is now open for you to apply for Bright Futures. EVERYONE needs to apply for Bright Futures, even if you are planning on going out of state for school. This is one of the few scholarship opportunities for which if you met the criteria you automatically get the money. Also, Bright Futures is good for up to one year after you graduate, so if you happen to go out of state and want/need to come back to Florida within a year, the money will still be there waiting for you.

This organization caters to low-middle income families with children ages 0-14. They are looking to assist families that are unable to provide toys for their children for Christmas.

There will be an upcoming Perry Outreach Program on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school and college-aged women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.
They are now seeking applicants for our Jacksonville, Florida program. Participants should be women in grades 10 and up with an expressed interest in science, medicine and/or engineering. Applicants should be directed to fill out the online application in advance of the January 22, 2013 application deadline.
