From: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, The University of Alabama
RE: Changes for 2018-2019 Incoming Class
As you wind down what we hope was a productive and positive year, we wanted to bring you up to date on some changes regarding scholarships and honors college eligibility for students entering The University of Alabama in Fall 2018. These can be found on our website and will be included in publications that our recruiters will be using this coming recruiting cycle.
In regards to Honors College, the entrance requirements will be increased to 30 ACT or 1390 SAT along with a 3.5 high school GPA. The Honors College has experienced incredible growth over the past 10 years and the average ACT has increased to over a 30. Honors believes that the increase in the admission standards will insure that they are engaging the most academically talented students. Students who do not meet admissions requirements may submit additional information and have their applications reconsidered during the spring of their senior year. Students not eligible for Honors when they enroll at Alabama will still be able to be admitted to Honors College by earning at least a 3.3 GPA their first semester while carrying at least 12 credit hours.
The scholarship offerings have also been changed for those students that will be enrolling in the Fall of 2018 and can be reviewed by clicking on the following link:
Nearly 25% of our incoming first-year students receive some form of merit based scholarships from the University and you will note that we have increased the value of those scholarships ranging from a 27-29 ACT or 1280-1380 new SAT and have maintained our generous National Merit Finalist package. And we will continue to allow students on National Merit and Presidential scholarships to use remaining semesters if they graduate early and enroll in graduate school with the next cohort.
Paxon's 2017 Summer Assignments information has been revised as of 05/30/17. The updated document is on the homepage of this website, on the Paxon school website, and is attached below.

Community Service Opportunity TODAY: Jacksonville National Cemetery needs help laying flags on graves
At Jacksonville National Cemetery, patriotism is a top priority. They want to give vets the sendoff they deserve and each May, they do just that. That’s a big undertaking. There are at least 11,460 graves that need adorning, meaning volunteers are needed.
Jacksonville National Cemetery’s annual flag laying is set for Thursday, May 25, at 2:30 p.m. The hope is to have at least 100 volunteers. Richburg, an Army man himself, says in an area with more than 150,000 vets, it's the least we can do.
The address to the cemetery is:
4083 Lannie Rd.
Jacksonville, FL 32218
All you have to do is show up to volunteer.

As a final update on what’s happening at UNF, we are now moving into Orientation season. Please remind your students to sign up for Freshman Orientation as soon as possible to reserve their seats in our 2017 Freshman Class. Let me know if any of your students have questions about that process, or any other “next steps” they should be taking.
Next, our application for the summer and fall 2018 terms will be opening on June 1st. If you know of any juniors that are interested in attending UNF, feel free to encourage them to apply early, send us their test scores and transcript, and then attend our annual Apply in July event at UNF on July 29th for an instant decision!
If you missed the Seal of Biliteracy ceremony and want your medal to wear at graduation, please visit the district office room 316 to receive it. You can ask for Dr. Joanne Davis, who is in office 316, or Myra Johnson, Karina Paloma or Rhonda Sellers who have cubicles nearby in the ESOL and World Languages Department.
(Please see the updated information from New College of Florida regarding opportunities for students seeking admission for Fall 2017. Please also keep in mind that New College offers a scholarship specifically for IB students.)
New College of Florida has ambitions to grow - we still have spots available for Fall 2017 (also housing and scholarships)!
Students apply through the Common Application. Counselors can submit official transcripts, fee waiver approvals and recommendations through their Common Application access. We will even (gasp!) accept these if you mail them to us in an official school envelope. (We will also accept exam scores provided on official transcripts - please make sure these include the date of testing and subscores.)
