This is a year-round program for teens ages 13 (as long as they have completed the 8th grade) and 17 that allows them to learn how a Zoo operates while earning community service hours and building their life skills. Applications are available now and involve an online application and listing two references. For more information visit jacksonvillezoo.org/volunteer. The deadline for application submissions has been extended to Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Can you believe it is time to start planning for the next Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign? The funds raised in the kettles from November 1st until Christmas Eve are funds that stay here, on the First Coast! These dollars provide struggling individuals in our community with food, shelter, and other necessities that most of us, often take for granted. We are reaching out to Jacksonville school principals, guidance counselors, and students with hopes that you will join us this holiday season in volunteering to “ring” The Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell, at a Publix, Winn Dixie, or Walmart location around Jacksonville. In the past, we have had schools sponsor a specific location, and devote 100% of their volunteer hours at that kettle. This would allow several of your school’s clubs to participate for a weekend or weekends throughout the holiday bell ringing season. We have even appointed Kettle Captainswithin each club to help align communication efforts. In addition, you’ll have your own Peer to Peer Fundraising platform to send out to friends and family helping generate dollars for your school, as well as, your Bell Ringing efforts. Not only does this show the philanthropic focus of your school but will showcase your school’s civic involvement to the entire community. Students of all ages may participate (under 16 must be accompanied by an adult), ringing for as little as two hours, can help make a difference. This is also a great opportunity for all students to earn community service hours for graduation requirements. (Not to mention future resume building.) I would love the opportunity to come discuss this campaign and how your school can participate. I can be reached by phone (904)301-4852 or e-mail [email protected]. We have previously had band members, ROTC, cheerleaders, and other clubs ring with us and we look forward to your school joining us in the spirit of giving. Sincerely, Kenya Waddell Bell Kenya Waddell Bell Special Events Manager & Red Kettle Coordinator (904)301-4852 direct line (904)885-3013 cell [email protected] Paxon School for Advanced Studies will host its 2nd annual International Fair and needs your help.
