Scholarship money available through the Friends of 440, a charitable organization comprised of people who work in the Florida workers’ compensation system.
Applications are due on or before this Saturday, February 28, 2015. The student can download the application, submit it on or before February 28, and then supplement the application with any missing information, like tax returns or a grade transcript, for example. NOTE: Even though the Friends of 440 Scholarship website indicates that an application will not be "processed" if there is missing information, the application itself will be considered timely if it is filed on or before February 28, 2015. The application will then move forward in the process when the missing information is submitted. The Friends of 440 is a charitable organization that grants scholarship funds to deserving kids whose parents are involved in the workers’ compensation system as, for example, lawyers or legal assistants, insurance adjusters, medical personnel who treat workers’ compensation patients, and, of course, injured workers. Our scholarship is available to kids who have the talent, the financial need, and the necessary connection to the workers’ compensation system. High school seniors must have a 2.7 GPA to apply and scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA and have at least 12 credit hours per semester, in order to remain eligible for funds. The first class began on January 10, and there are plans to grow aggressively in the coming years. Year Up’s mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. Since its founding in 2000, Year Up has served over 10,000 young adults and has had proven results: • 100% placement of qualified Year Up students into six-month, fulltime internships • 90% of corporate partners would recommend the Year Up program to a friend or colleague • 85% of graduates are employed or attending college full-time within four months of completing the program • Employed Year Up graduates earn an average of $16 per hour – the equivalent of $32,000 per year The PTC is a career pathway that closely links college and employment for urban young adults. PTC students in Jacksonville will attend FSCJ fulltime for their first semester of the program.
