I'm sure you have seen the Teens 4 Jeans service project that has been going on throughout the month of January. The project is aimed at providing jeans for the homeless. If you are able to please come out this Friday, Jan. 25th until about 5pm in the school cafeteria to assist with packing up the jeans to be shipped off. This may count towards your community service hours. Assistance will also be needed with sewing up some patches that may be in some of the jeans prior to shipping them off. Please come out to help if you can and spread the word.

The It’s HER Business Teen Entrepreneurship Conference is a one-day conference for girls ages 15-18 enrolled in high school. It is designed to encourage financial literacy and help girls learn about starting businesses and managing personal finances through interactive games and hands-on activities. We use successful local business women as conference facilitators/mentors to share their ideas and experiences with the participants. As a charitable organization, their goal is to provide needed financial assistance to college and university students who exemplify leadership, work ethic and academic excellence. Mayo Clinic Summer Teen Volunteer Program runs June 17, 2013 through August 9, 2013
Acceptance into program based on first-come screening process
Applications accepted Wednesday 1/2/13 through Thursday 1/17/13
• Only one 4-hour shift can be missed during the entire 8-week summer
program. Plan accordingly.
• Missing more than one 4-hour shift makes you ineligible to volunteer
the following summer.
• Must attend Orientation on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm.
• Must attend Training Day on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 8:00 am.
• Must have an e-mail address that will be checked frequently for
communication from Volunteer Office.
• Must live and attend school in our local community.
• Upon notification of acceptance into the program, three (3) letters of
reference will be required from school, clergy or a non-related person.
FAMU will be coming to town January 16. They have agreed to do on-site admissions this year, so student will be able to bring transcripts, tests scores , applications and application fees and have everything reviewed.

Bethel Baptist is accepting registration for their spring BEST Saturday Academy, which among other things offers FREE ACT/SAT prep.
They also offer a number of parent programs. This is an excellent program. A number of district staff volunteer their time to help with some of these presentations.
