Contest Topic & Guidelines:
In 1,000 words or less, describe and analyze
an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official
who served during or after 1956.
Essays must be at least 700 words long,
but no more than 1,000 words.
- $10,000 first-place prize and an expense-paid trip to Boston with family and nominating teacher.
- Address Common Core and national standards in literacy and social studies with a Pulitzer Prize winning mentor text.
- Unique opportunity to integrate history, writing, and current events.
